Positions for Healing Grace in an Election Year #10

Some of you have already voted.  Some will still be going to their poling place and some will send in their ballot.  I want to remind you that as you vote for this election on Tuesday…

#1 – we are Christians before political parties, policies or ideologies.

#2 – we get our direction and values from God and His word.

#3 – we view people and life with the same value that God does.

#4 – we submit to and obey our governing authorities.

#5 – we honor and respect the people who govern us.

#6 – we participate in elections in a way that reflects Jesus.

#7 – we take action on God’s directives to care for the poor and needy.

#8 – we make it our highest priority to pray.

#9 – we trust in God’s plan.

#10 – We remind ourselves of our final destination.

If you are worried about where America is headed, let me ask you this question – where are you headed?  Many people are worried today because all their hopes are on America.  Are yours’?  If all the earlier positions are true of you, then your hope is not here in this imperfect and impermanent world.  In John 14:1-3, Jesus said “Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare a place for you. If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also.”  CSV

Paul wrote to the Philippians, which was a city filled with retired Roman officers and soldiers, “But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.”  Our citizenship? heaven.  The one in control?  Jesus  In the words of the old song “this world is not our home, we’re just a passing through”  That is our future, our hope, our destination.

Presently, we get to be part of this nation.  It is not perfect and it never will be, but here, so far, we can worship a perfect God.  We get to worship as we choose.  How precious that freedom is – few places in the history of man or governments have ever had the freedom to worship as we have.  Do not take that for granted.

I suppose the best way to sum up all of these Positions of Healing Grace in an Election Year is to simply say “Love Jesus More.”  Love him more than this nation.  Love him more than politics.  Love him more than your rights and freedoms.  Love Jesus More.
