Positions for Healing Grace in an Election Year #8

#8 – we make it our highest priority to pray.

It could really be first on the list, except that we

need to have some basics in place before talking about prayer. Prayer at its foremost is communication between us and God. It is the pathway that God has invited us to take, not only to get to know him, but also to make ourselves aware of our need for him in every aspect of life.

If this election season is causing you anxiety and stress, then God’s word says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Phil 4:6-7 – if you are anxious about anything, every situation, pray, let God know your what your desire is, and give thanks. We often pray, but we forget to give thanks.

If you are concerned about the future because of these elections, God’s word says 1 Tim. 2:1-2 “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving (there it is again) be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quite lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior.“ – you want to be at peace about your world and circumstances, pray for leaders. It doesn’t say pray for the leaders who agree with you. For the ones you like. Pray.

If you are concerned about where our nation is headed, Psa. 22:28 “Because the right to rule belongs to the Lord, he rules all nations.” – God rules the nations, so pray, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

If you are unsure about who will be elected our next President, then the word says Pro. 28:2 “When a land is in rebellion, it has many rulers, but with a discerning and knowledgeable person, it endures.” Regardless of who wins, we need to pray for our President to have discernment and knowledge.

Remember our true struggle is not with sinful, imperfect leaders, but with maleficent, demonic powers. Ephesians 6:10-12 “Finally be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.” That is why Paul said pray for the leaders, because they are in the middle of this battle too, whether they realize it or not. The presidential candidates are not evil, they are broken, imperfect vessels that need our prayer support to lead this nation. So if you want to fight, pick a fight with the Devil, not a Democrat or Republican, not a conservative or a liberal. #8, we make it our highest priority to pray.
